Bathtime

 Look for baths with:

• Non-slip surfaces: Both inside the tub for the baby and on the bottom of the bath to keep it stable.
• Ergonomic design: To support your baby’s head and body, especially for newborns who can’t sit up yet. 
• Drain plug: For easy water emptying.
• Durability and easy cleaning: Make sure it’s made from non-toxic, BPA-free plastic.

While you can use a regular surface, a dedicated changing mat or unit offers several advantages:

• Safety: They often have raised edges or contoured designs to help prevent your baby from rolling off. 
• Hygiene: They are typically made of wipeable, waterproof materials, making cleanup of inevitable messes much easier than on a bed or carpet.
• Convenience: Units provide dedicated storage for nappies, wipes, creams, and extra clothes, keeping everything organised and within reach. Mats offer a clean, portable surface wherever you need it.
• Comfort: The padded surface is more comfortable for your baby during changes.

• NEVER leave your baby unattended: Even for a second. Babies can roll quickly and unexpectedly. Always keep one hand on your baby.
• Keep supplies within reach: Ensure all nappies, wipes, and creams are easily accessible before you start the change, so you don’t have to turn away or reach far.
• Secure the mat/unit: If using a mat on a dresser, ensure it has a non-slip base or is secured to prevent it from sliding.
• Clear the area: Remove any toys, cords, or other items that could pose a choking or strangulation hazard.
