What are the different types of safety gates, and which one is best for stairs?
There are two main types:
- Hardware-Mounted Gates: These gates are screwed into the wall or door frame. They are the safest and only recommended type for the top of stairs because they provide a secure barrier that won’t be pushed over. They are also ideal for high-traffic areas.
Pressure-Mounted Gates: These gates are held in place by pressure against the doorframe. They are easier to install but can be pushed over if enough force is applied. They are NOT safe for the top of stairs as they can fail, leading to a fall. They are best for blocking off doorways between rooms where there isn’t a fall hazard, or for low-traffic areas.
