Frequently asked questions
What exactly are LEGO Speed Champions playsets?
Who are these sets for? Are they just for kids?
What kind of cars can I build?
How realistic are they? Do they really look like the actual cars?
Are they hard to build? What's the typical piece count?
Most single-car sets range from about 200 to 300 pieces. This makes them a satisfying but not overly challenging build for most ages. Multi-car sets or those with pit garages will naturally have more pieces. The instructions are famously clear and step-by-step, making the building process a fun journey, not a frustrating race!
Can you actually play with them, or are they just for display?
Both! They’re sturdy enough for exciting playtime races across the living room carpet, imaginative adventures, or even setting up miniature pit stops. The wheels roll smoothly, and their minifigure scale makes them perfect for integrating into larger LEGO cities. And yes, they also look fantastic parked on a shelf, showing off their cool designs!
What's the difference between older and newer Speed Champions sets?
Originally, most Speed Champions cars were designed to be 6-studs wide. However, since 2020, they’ve almost all transitioned to an 8-stud wide design. This extra width allows for even more accurate shaping, interior detail, and in some models, two-minifigure seating, making the new generation even more impressive and realistic!
