Frequently asked questions
What is Miraculous Ladybug?
It’s a hugely popular animated TV show about two Parisian teenagers, Marinette Dupain-Cheng and Adrien Agreste, who secretly transform into superheroes Ladybug and Cat Noir. They use their special powers to protect Paris from the villainous Monarch (formerly Hawk Moth) and his Akumatized villains.
Who are Ladybug and Cat Noir?
- Ladybug: The main superhero, secretly Marinette. She uses her Lucky Charm to create objects that help her defeat villains and her Miraculous Ladybug power to fix all the damage. Her Kwami (magical helper) is Tikki.
- Cat Noir: Ladybug’s loyal partner, secretly Adrien. He has the power of Cataclysm, which allows him to destroy anything he touches. His Kwami is Plagg.
What's a "Kwami"?
Kwamis are tiny, magical, god-like creatures that grant their chosen owners special powers. Each Kwami is linked to a specific Miraculous jewel (like Tikki for the Ladybug earrings, or Plagg for the Cat Noir ring). You’ll often find Kwami plushies or small figures included with larger toys
What are the "Miraculous" themselves?
The Miraculous are ancient magical jewels (like earrings, rings, necklaces, bracelets) that, when worn and inhabited by a Kwami, transform ordinary people into superheroes with incredible powers. Many toys feature replicas of these iconic Miraculous jewels.
Who are the villains I might see in toy form?
The main villain is Monarch (formerly Hawk Moth), who uses his power to turn negative emotions into Akumas, which then possess people and turn them into supervillains. You might also find figures of specific Akumatized villains from the show, like Stormy Weather or Queen Bee (when she was under evil influence).
What kinds of Miraculous toys are there?
Lots!
- Action Figures: Poseable figures of Ladybug, Cat Noir, villains, and other heroes, often with accessories.
- Fashion Dolls: Larger dolls (similar to Barbie or Monster High) of Marinette, Adrien, Ladybug, and Cat Noir, with changeable outfits and brushable hair.
- Plushies: Soft, cuddly versions of Kwamis (Tikki, Plagg, etc.), Ladybug, Cat Noir, and other characters.
- Playsets: Recreations of iconic locations like Marinette’s room, the Eiffel Tower, or the Parisian rooftops.
- Role-Play/Dress-Up: Costumes, masks, yo-yos, and Cat Noir’s staff to help kids transform into their favorite heroes.
- Blind Bags/Collectibles: Small mystery figures of Kwamis or characters.
What's the difference between an "action figure" and a "fashion doll" in Miraculous toys?
- Action figures are typically smaller (around 5-6 inches), designed for dynamic play, with many points of articulation (bendy joints) and often come with action-oriented accessories. Think battling and posing!
- Fashion dolls are usually larger (around 10-11 inches), designed for dressing up, styling hair, and imaginative role-play. They often come with fabric outfits and sometimes extra accessories like purses or shoes.
What's a good first Miraculous toy to get?
A basic Ladybug or Cat Noir action figure or fashion doll is always a great start. A Kwami plushie (like Tikki or Plagg) is also a fantastic introduction to the magical world of Miraculous.
