Frequently asked questions
What’s the single most important piece in a spy kit?
While the periscope is cool and the invisible ink is mysterious, the most vital tool is often the most overlooked: The Notepad and Pencil. Intelligence is useless if you can’t record it! Document everything: license plates of cars driving by (make and model, not real plates!), the secret code name you gave the family cat, the weather conditions. A good agent knows that details are everything.
My walkie-talkie says it has a 2-mile range. Why can I only hear my friend when he’s in his backyard next door?
Ah, the classic “line-of-sight” conundrum. Those range estimates are based on perfect, open conditions—like two agents on top of flat hills with nothing in between. Your signal is a brave little energy wave, and it hates obstacles. Houses, walls, trees, and even your fridge will dramatically shorten its journey. For best results, go outside and find a clear path between you and your fellow agent.
My walkie-talkie makes a weird squawking noise sometimes. Is it broken? Is someone else listening in
You’ve just experienced “channel bleed.” Most toy walkie-talkies operate on a set of public frequencies (like Channel 1, Sub-channel 1). If another set of walkie-talkies—or even a baby monitor—nearby is on the exact same channel, you might hear them for a second! It’s not a sinister eavesdropper (probably), but it’s a great opportunity to fuel your story. Quickly switch to your backup channel and whisper, “The signal’s been compromised! Switch to frequency Bravo!” Instant drama.
