About the Author
Sesame Workshop is an independent nonprofit organization on a mission to help kids everywhere grow smarter, stronger, and kinder. David Partington is an illustrator based in Bristol, UK. His influences range from mid-century design to Saturday morning cartoons. As part of Peski Studio (formerly Peskimo) he enjoys screen printing, a process which often informs his approach to illustration. David’s work can be seen in kids’ books, food packaging, and jumbo floor puzzles around the world. He especially enjoys creating characters, drawing friendly robots, and sending them on incredible adventures.
Early reading ignites creativity, sparks curiosity, and also stimulates the imagination in young children. Often, this leads to role-play as children grow which helps to develop many other skills such as empathy, problem-solving, and also morality. Reading together also provides an opportunity for parents and children to connect. Teachers and parents are in a great position to ensure reading is a key part of children’s daily routine
A child who knows how to read early on will have better vocabulary, use the correct grammar, have improved writing, be better at spelling, and also more articulated speech. These are great skills to have, no matter what a child’s future holds. These skills will be with them and will also help them throughout their entire lives. When we read a book, we put ourselves in the story in front of us. This allows us to develop empathy as we experience the lives of other characters and can identify with how they are feeling. Children can then use this understanding to empathise in the real world with other people. To view our entire selection of Children’s Books please click here.
